From the Couch to a Triathlon RSS

I'm a 30-something guy who looked in the mirror one day and found himself a couch potato. After watching one of my friends do a triathlon, I decided it was time to do one myself. Follow me on my journey through the ups and downs of training.

    wii fit + swimming

Today was a day of new stuff for me. I have scheduled twice weekly strength workouts. I’ve mostly given up doing work at the gym in favor of at home stuff. The inner geek in me says that most of the workouts I do there, could easily be done with the Wii Fit. In fact, with the new version of Wii Fit Plus, you can set up routines, and have yourself a good set that you’ll do whenever you feel like it. For those wii fit people out there, this means that you can do a routine without having to click through all of the menus between every exercise, though you can’t really change on the way through. The good news? I was able to do a pretty substantial workout rather quickly (40 minutes). The bad news? I probably overdid it given how I felt later when I went swimming. I’m going to be fine tuning my routine, but at some point in the future, I will be sharing it. I did the Wii Fit in the morning, and then I went swimming at about 4pm. This felt good at first, and I even did 100m again w/o the pull buoy. However, I must say that my arms completely gave out at 500m. I think I overdid the wii fit, so it really didn’t matter that I made it to the pool since I wasn’t able to do anything at all.
