From the Couch to a Triathlon RSS

I'm a 30-something guy who looked in the mirror one day and found himself a couch potato. After watching one of my friends do a triathlon, I decided it was time to do one myself. Follow me on my journey through the ups and downs of training.

I’ve got a rough week coming up between starting up a new contract for work, starting daycare for my daughter (and I’m the one with a flexible schedule) and trying to get workouts in.  I have a strong feeling that as much as I’d like this week to be a strong workout week, it is going to be rather week.  The first two days show how this plays out…

Monday:  The morning was spent getting Sofia to and from daycare for the first trial period, which meant about 3 miles of walking up and down a hill.  When I got him, I hit the Wii Fit for 15 minutes of yoga + strength.  When my wife came home from work, I got to the gym and hit the elliptical for 40 minutes.  I still haven’t gotten myself back into running again.  I’ll admit that I’ve been rather scared because of hurting myself last time, even though I know that is silly.  Perhaps Wednesday I’ll see if I can switch between elliptical and the treadmill a bit (I don’t want to up the volume too much, too quickly again).

Tuesday: Zip, nada, zilch.  OK, that’s not true, but due to time constraints I ended up driving my daughter to daycare, took the metro down to where I had a meeting, walked about 0.6 miles there and back (1.2 overall) then back up to daycare (0.7 miles), then all the way back home (1.4 miles) for a total of 3.2 miles.  After that, I didn’t get anything in the way of a workout.  I meant to do a whole lot, but Sofia wasn’t having any of that.

Lessons learned?  Grab whatever time you can to get your workouts in, because you’re never going to be sure when you’ll have time.  I’m hoping to get in some Wii Fit time tomorrow, as well as a bit of gym time.  Don’t know if that is gonna happen.
